Developing mitigation strategy in death penalty cases

Bruce Offut's Life

Attorneys representing clients facing a possible death penalty must conduct a thorough social history investigation and be ready to explain "the client’s complete social history from before conception to the present." Wiggins v. Smith and the American Bar Association’s 2003 Guidelines for the Appointment and Performance of Defense Counsel in Death Penalty Cases both call for a complete social history investigation as a requirement for an adequate defense.

I have conducted detailed and extensive social history investigations and produced comprehensive psycho-social histories for over 50 clients facing capital charges since 1988. This web site shows examples of the type of work product that I produce. I am available for consultation on cases anywhere in the United States.
